Work on this journal started in a very different world – one before the COVID-19 pandemic, and while we are limited in our ability to respond to it in the body of the journal, you will see on our Briefing page links to resources from RICS to help during this crisis.
We have also produced the journal in an online-only format, so members can access content wherever they are based. We will continue to produce material to help your professional development, both as a commitment to you and to maintain a sense of continuity in a disrupted world so that we can start to look beyond the current situation.
Property Journal continues its series on rights of light, residential defects, party walls and commercial APC tips. A technical case study shows what passive house standards can do for an industrial building in a tropical climate, we explore the importance of office acoustics and a commercial property expert gives his views on how big tech firms influence workplace design across the board.
Onsite power generation is examined from both the commercial and residential perspective, and we look at how we should build homes for a world of rising temperatures.
I hope that these professional insights will help you to learn and reflect, whatever your situation. For the RICS response as the pandemic and its consequences develop, please visit rics.org/coronavirus and I hope that next time I write things will be looking brighter. In the meantime I send best wishes to you and your families and hope you stay safe and well over the coming months.
